HIF2OI Exploring Family Studies, Grade 10, Open This course is an introduction to Family Studies and provides students with a sampling of topics that are covered more thoroughly in other Family Studies courses. Topics include adolescent development, relationships, decision making and problem solving, managing resources, and consumer awareness. Students will also have an opportunity to develop and refine practical skills, such as meal preparation and sewing.

HNC3CI Understanding Fashion, Grade 11, College Have you ever wanted to create something unique and reflective of your personal style? Why not learn how to sew or knit? This course explores fashion design and construction, influences on fashion, fashion marketing, and the industry’s effects on the environment. Several sewing and/or knitting projects will be completed throughout the course. Added cost for sewing/knitting project materials.

HSP3CI Introduction to Anthropology, Psychology, & Sociology, Grade 11, College This course introduces students to the Social Sciences by exploring a variety of interesting and exciting topics. Areas of study include: personality, group dynamics, conflict, and deviant behavior. Students will learn about diverse subjects such as human origins, religious cults, and Rites of Passage. Film and daily discussion will provide the framework for the analysis of these and other topical issues.

HSP3UI Introduction to Anthropology, Psychology, and Sociology, Grade 11, University Prerequisite: The Grade 10 academic course in English, or the Grade 10 academic history course Canadian and world studies. Students will also explore food trends and choices, as well as local and global issues surrounding food, and social science research. Participation in labs will allow students to expand their knowledge of food preparation, as well as explore different topics covered throughout the course. |

HHG4MI Human Development Throughout the Lifespan, Grade 12, University or College Prerequisite: Any university or university/college preparation course in social sciences and humanities, English, or Canadian and world studies. This course applies current theories and research from the fields of anthropology, psychology, and sociology to the study of individual development, family behaviour, personal and parent–child relationships, and the ways in which families interact in our diverse Canadian society. Students will learn the interpersonal skills required to contribute to the well-being of families, and the investigative skills required to conduct and evaluate research about individuals and families. |
HIP4OI Personal Life Management, Grade 12, Open Are you ready for the challenges and responsibilities that come with being an adult? This course prepares students to live and work independently. It focuses on teaching skills for managing personal resources like food, clothing, and housing. It explores personal, legal, and financial responsibilities and helps students develop the interpersonal skills needed to make responsible personal and occupational choices. |
HNB4MI The World of Fashion, Grade 12, University or College Prerequisite: Any university, college, or university/college preparation course in social sciences and humanities, English, or Canadian and world studies **HNC3CI recommended Topics covered in this course include fashion history and influences, global textile production and the industry’s social responsibility. Students will build on their existing design and fashion construction skills through the production of fashion products. Added cost for sewing/knitting project materials. |
HZT4UI Philosophy: Questions & Theories, Grade 12, University Prerequisite: Any university or university/college preparation course in social sciences and humanities, English, or Canadian and world Studies. “To think or not to think”, that is the question. Using the Ancient Greeks as a foundation, students will consider Metaphysics, Ethics, Epistemology and Existentialism. Learn about Socrates, Descartes, Nietzsche, Sartre and others. The culminating unit is centered on the Meaning of Life, if indeed one exists. Why take Philosophy? Why indeed.
