Support for GCI Football
Posted July 20, 2026
Hello GCI parents, families and caregivers,
At Galt Collegiate Institute (GCI), we are committed to offering students a range of extracurricular opportunities and experiences from athletics to clubs and more.
As we look towards the beginning of the 2026-2027 school year, as with all extracurricular activities, we are considering the program offerings and experiences we are able to provide for students. We hope to continue to offer a football program for the 2026-2027 school year. We know that secondary school football is important for many of those who have been involved in the past, as well as for those students who are planning to participate in athletics in the coming school year.
We continue to explore all possible avenues to support a viable football program, including ensuring that we have the appropriate number of qualified, trained individuals available as coaches.
Our focus, as always, is on ensuring the safety and well-being of GCI students at school and as they take part in extracurricular activities such as athletics. We also must be mindful of the obligations we have to the guidelines for football programs at secondary schools, outlined by OPHEA, WCSSAA and OFSAA.
We are grateful to those in our school community who have come forward to offer their services, and we will continue to be guided by the required qualifications and training when making decisions regarding those who will be able to supervise or coach the football program. If you have the necessary skills, experience and qualifications for coaching football at the secondary school level (or know of another individual who does), please reach out to our school at gci@wrdsb.ca.
We remain committed to supporting a well-rounded experience for all GCI students that includes numerous extracurricular athletics, clubs and activities during their time at school. While we are working to support the continuation of our football program, students continue to have access to a wide range of extracurricular athletics and activities to get involved, develop their skills, build friendships and experience school spirit. We will share additional updates on the football program before the start of the school year.
Thank you for your support and partnership in supporting our students this year. We can’t wait to welcome them back to school in September!
Adrian Blair
