Current Aboriginal Issues in Canada, Grade 11, University or College

Prerequisite: CHC2DI or CHC2PI

This course focuses on existing and emerging issues of importance to Aboriginal peoples in Canada. Students will investigate issues related to identity, language preservation, stereotypes, religion and artistic expression. Students will also examine such topics as, sovereignty [treaties], historical injustice, reserves and the need for dialogue between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal peoples.

Issues of Indigenous Peoples in a Global Context, Grade 12, University or College

This course provides an overview of the issues and challenges that confront indigenous peoples worldwide as well as in Canada. Students will investigate issues related to identity, reconciliation, stereotypes, religion and the relationship between natives and non-natives. Students will also examine such topics as the appreciation of the fragility of Native culture in Canada and in the global community.
