ENGLISH LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT
ELDAOI- ELD1 Beginning Literacy, Open This course is intended for English language learners who have had limited access to schooling and thus have significant gaps in their first language literacy skills. They will be building the foundations of early literacy. |
ELDBOI– ELD2 Basic Literacy Skills, Open This course is intended for English language learners who have had limited access to schooling and thus have gaps in their first language literacy skills. The course will also help students become familiar with school routines and begin to adapt to their new lives in Canada. |
ELDCOI– ELD3 Literacy in Everyday Life, Open This course is intended for English language learners who have had limited access to schooling and thus have gaps in their first language literacy skills. This course builds on students’ literacy and language skills and extends their abilities to communicate in English. |
ELDDOI– ELD4 Literacy for School & Work, Open This course is intended for English language learners who have had limited access to schooling and thus have gaps in their first language literacy skills. Students will develop the reading, writing, and oral presentation skills required for success in all school subjects |
ELDEOI– ELD5 English Literacy Development, Open Prerequisite: ELDDOI This course provides students with skills and strategies that will allow them to pursue pathways to employment that may involve apprenticeship and/or cooperative education programs. It will also prepare them for applied level courses. This course is available to those in grade 10 or higher. |
ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE
ESLAOI– ESL1 Beginning Communication in English, Open This course builds on students’ previous education and language knowledge to introduce them to the English language. |
ESLBOI– ESL2 English in Daily Life, Open This course extends students’ listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in English for everyday and academic purposes. |
ESLCOI- ESL3 English for School & Work, Open This course further extends students’ skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in English for a variety of everyday and academic purposes. |
ESLDOI– ESL4 Study Skills in English, Open This course prepares students to use English with increasing fluency and accuracy in classroom and social situations and to participate in Canadian society as informed citizens. |
ESLEOI– ESL5 Bridge to English, Open This course provides students with the skills and strategies they need to make the transition to college and university preparation courses in English and other secondary school disciplines. Students develop independence in a range of academic tasks. This course is available to those in grade 10 or higher. |

GLS1OZ Learning Strategies, Grade 9, Open This course focuses on basic language building skills in reading, writing and speaking through developing learning strategies to become independent learners. This course also helps students become more familiar with school routines. |
HFN1OZ Food & Nutrition, Grade 9, Open This course allows students to develop practical cooking skills by creating nutritious meals. It focuses on empowering students with the knowledge and skills necessary to live healthy and nutritious lifestyles. |
MAT1LZ Mathematics: preparing for grade 9, Grade 9, Essential This course helps students develop mathematical knowledge and skills to prepare for success in their everyday lives. |
MTH1WZ Mathematics, Grade 9 This course strengthens students’ demonstration of foundational math concepts to help determine the best pathway in future math courses. |
SNC1LZ Science, Grade 9, Essential This course emphasizes reinforcing vocabulary and concepts to better understand the basics of science from atoms to outer space. |
SNC1WZ Science, Grade 9 In this course students will broaden their understanding of concepts in biology, chemistry, and earth & space science. |
TIJ1OZ Exploring Technologies, Grade 9, Open Learn by doing in this hands-on program as you make projects in the Wood, Machine, and Auto shops. Take home finished projects out of wood and metal. Students will also work on and learn about automotive concepts. |
ELS2OZ Literacy Skills: Reading and Writing, Grade 10, Open This course emphasizes the strengthening of reading and writing skills, specifically those required for the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT). |
