Parents, families and caregivers of students in Grade 7 to 12 may still opt-in to receive a Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB)-provided Chromebook for the 2026-2027 school year.
Students with Special Education (SEA) devices are not required to complete the opt-in process. They should continue to use the device assigned to them.
How to Opt-In to Receive a WRDSB-Provided Chromebook
For Grade 7 to 12 Students
If you have a child currently enrolled in Grade 7 to 12, you will receive a reminder message via School-Day inviting you to opt-in online for your child to receive a WRDSB-provided Chromebook.
You may also request a paper version of the opt-in form from your child’s school.
You do not need to complete this process if:
- You have already opted-in
- Your child already has a WRDSB-provided device
- Your child has a Special Education (SEA) device
How to Opt-Out
If you do not wish to receive a WRDSB-provided device, you may complete the form indicating your preference to opt-out.
For Kindergarten to Grade 6 Students
If a student is opted-in before they are eligible, they will need to be opted-in again once they’re eligible. Opt-ins for ineligible students are not saved.
Grade 6 students can opt-in anytime in their Grade 6 school year (from September to the spring opt-in deadline) to receive a WRDSB-provided Chromebook in Grade 7.
Bring Your Own Device
Parents, families and caregivers who do not wish to opt-in to receiving a WRDSB-provided Chromebook may instead choose to provide their own device. Recommended technical specifications can be found on our website.
