Hello GCI Students, Caregivers/Guardians and Families,
Earlier this summer, we shared that we were hopeful we would be able to offer a football program at GCI for the 2026–27 school year. At that time, our ability to move forward depended on ensuring a qualified coaching staff to safely support our student-athletes.
We are very pleased to now share that this school year, GCI will offer a Varsity Football program for students in grades 9–12.
We are incredibly grateful to the dedicated staff and community members who have come together to offer their time and expertise to support our Ghosts. Our coaching team will include staff and community volunteers, with both full-time and part-time coaches. Most importantly, our coaches and volunteers have the appropriate qualifications and credentials required to support a safe secondary school football program for our students.
Students interested in joining the team are invited to participate in pre-season training and practice sessions beginning next week:
- Dates: September 1–3, 2026
- Time: 3:00 to 4:30 p.m.
- Location: Galt Collegiate Institute field
The regular season will run from September 8th to November 10th, or until the conclusion of the team’s season. Games and practices will generally take place on school days from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.
We know that football has a long history at GCI and we are excited to see our Ghosts back on the field this fall. Thank you again to the staff and community volunteers coming together to make this opportunity possible for our students.
