Dear GCI Families,
In line with the previously shared information from the WRDSB, this information is a reminder of the updated Assessment and Evaluation expectations for grade 9 and 10 students.
In Ontario, according to the Ministry of Education, the final mandatory grade weighting for a course comprises 30% for final evaluations and 70% for evaluations that happen throughout the semester.
For the last 5 school years, at the end of the semester, grade 9 and 10 students may not have had mandatory evaluations during the designated final assessment and evaluations days. Starting this semester, January 2026, grade 9 and 10 students in compulsory courses will have a required, mandatory in-class component and a scheduled final evaluation in the form of an examination or other evaluation product.
| Grade 9 | Grade 10 |
| CGC1W – Geography | CHC2D – History |
| SNC1W – Science | SNC2D – Science |
| MTH1W – Math** | MPM2D – Math |
| ENL1W – English | ENG2D – English |
| FSF1D/FEF1D/FIF1D – French |
Teachers for non compulsory courses may also choose to also offer a final evaluation on one of these Evaluation Days.
GCI will follow the same structure as other WRDSB secondary schools, using a special schedule at the end of semester for the following compulsory courses. FOR ALL GRADES, the dates for these final evaluations this school year will be:
- Sem 1: Jan. 23, 26, 27, 28
- Sem 2: June 19, 22, 23, 24.
The exact date of an evaluation will be determined by the scheduled daily class, with one period on each day. For example; a student who is taking ENL1W in block A will attend an evaluation/exam day on Jan 23rd, block B, Jan 26th, block C Jan 27th and block D Jan.28th.
Attendance is mandatory for students for whom a final evaluation is scheduled in a course. Additional information will be shared with students and families as we near the end of each semester.
Please direct questions to the GCI administrative team. Additional information on final evaluation changes may be found on the WRDSB website.
Please take good care,
Adrian Blair
Principal, GCI
