Welcome to the 2022-23 School Year at GCI! School staff have been working hard to prepare for students’ arrival on September 6th.

I look forward to my 3rd year as Principal of this amazing school. The beautiful building and campus is complemented by the wonderful staff and students who make it such a special place in our community. Our range of specialized programs (MLL, OYAP, Design Magnet, Dual Credit, French Immersion, Extended French, Life Skills, Co-Op, eLearning, and Specialist High Skills Majors in Sport, Business, and Information & Communication Technology), in addition to a strong core program and extensive student supports, GCI has something for everyone.

If I could share one important piece of advice, it would be for students to get involved in extra-curricular activities at school. Extra-curricular activities (clubs, bands, teams, groups, special events, etc.) immensely enrich your high school experience. They help you develop important skills and contribute to your success in academics as well as other areas of life.

To help you prepare for high school, we have emailed your 2022-2023 timetable to Grade 10, 11, and 12 student WRDSB Gmail. This will allow you to know which courses you have in each semester. Grade 9 students received a paper copy of their timetable at the grade 9 welcome day. These will also be available from homeroom classes when students arrive on Sept 6th. A homeroom list will be posted in the cafeteria and outside Tassie Hall.

What follows is information that should help you get ready for the first day of school.

Mr. B. Lozon

Principal

Transportation

To view transportation details, go to www.stswr.ca, click on “Student Login”, enter your child’s Ontario Education Number, which can be found on your child’s last report card (numbers only; no space or dash). Enter your child’s birth date (dd/mm/yyyy), and street number, and select GCI from the drop down menu.

Data Verification Form (DVF) and Startup Package

Two important items will require your attention: your child’s Data Verification Form (DVF) and the September Startup Package. The DVF will give to students in their homeroom class, and paper copies must be returned by Friday, September 9th. Students without a homeroom class should pick up their DVF from the main office.

September 6th “School Year Information” will be sent through School Day and will appear on the GCI website (gci.wrdsb.ca) and must be completed online. The September Home Package contains board-wide information such as a welcome letter from the Director, 2022-23 school year information, student accident insurance letter, character development information, code of digital conduct, safe, caring, and inclusive schools information, parent engagement, school council information, etc.
