We respect the need for families to have timely notification in the event of any confirmed positive COVID cases in their child’s classroom.  Last year, school staff made individual phone calls to families.  While this ensured immediate two-way communication, we also appreciate that this resulted in a delay of several hours, especially in instances where dozens of families needed to be notified.
Since over 97% of GCI families are registered with the School Day notification system, we feel that this is our fastest and most efficient method to reach out to members our school community.  If we need to communicate with select classes regarding a confirmed positive COVID case, we will send details to the email that a parent has registered in the School Day system.  This message will include specific class information and direction from Public Health.
With this system, a response back from the families will be required (this will be an automated response within School-day and instructions will be provided in the email notification).  Follow-up phone calls will continue for any families who have not confirmed that they received the information.
Similar to last year, at the direction of Public Health all schools will be sharing general details of positive COVID Cases on the school website and through School-Day in a way that respects the privacy of individuals involved.
